Dental fillings are used to repair a variety of issues including fractures, cracks and decay. At the offices of Midwest Family Dental Care, in addition to traditional amalgam fillings, we offer natural-looking tooth-colored fillings made of composite material. When you come to our office for a consultation, we will discuss the pros and cons of each type and advise on the best options for restoring your teeth.
Dental filling materials may be used for one or more of the following reasons:
Tooth-colored fillings which are made of composite material, are the ideal choice for most people since they can be made to match your natural tooth color. Composite fillings are durable restorations, and with good oral care, they last for many years.
Composite fillings can be placed in a single visit to our office. We start by numbing the tooth to be filled and then removing any decay or damage. The space is cleaned thoroughly and prepared before placing the new filling. The filling material is then placed, shaped, and polished, to restore your tooth to its original function and shape. It is common to experience slight sensitivity after placement of tooth-colored fillings. It will subside soon after the tooth becomes used to the filling.
